About Me
-
Describe Yourself:I'm going to write this one as if Will Evans isn't me, just someone I know.
Will Evans weighs more than 80.3 kg in the morning. He's American with a thick mane of dark brown wind swept hair (except when its held in place by various salon products). He was born in Alaska which used to have a reputation for acute dullness, punctuated by extreme cold. It's now a whole lot more vibrant with 3 instead of 2 bars per capita. He nearly became an investment banker when he left school (Occidental College). For three reasons, he didn't.
* He found excitement in computers, art, and ideas;
* Investment Banking is just a fancy name for accounting;
* He hates accounting.
He left Los Angeles after school and ended up in Boston working for an investment bank where he moonlighted in the evenings designing collaboration and workflow databases. A fully qualified user interface geek with a neurotic tendency towards spending long hours with Photoshop, cameras, and punk rock and ALOT of coffee; he soon discovered the internet.
With that lesson learned, he left investment banking to start Solstice Media, an interactive agency in Tokyo. The experience was amazing - especially since his clients included Toyota Motor Corporation, the International Monetary Fund, and Sony.
---
His favorite wine would be a bottle of Penfolds Grange Hermitage. Ideally a 1976, but let's not get too picky. The Grange Hermitage is red of course. His favorite other colour is black. He doesn't know why.
---
OK, OK. For a creative that's a bit of a cliche. To say he is passionate about ideas is to say that Warren Buffett has a mild, fleeting interest in money. His first love may be for creative ideas but this preoccupation extends to ideas from and for every area of human and non-human activity that involves complex information systems. In other words, all-inclusive. Ideas are what make life worth living for him. It's probably why he's always in a classroom, or has his face in a book.
---
He currently is the information architect designing risk modeling and visualization software. ---
He has held interactive architecture, strategy and management positions at various technology companies; including Information Architect at Gather.com, Interaction Designer for Kayak.com; Information Architect at Lotus and Programs Manager for Curl - a darpa-funded MIT LCS project allowing him to meet and work along side such notables as Tim Berners-Lee and Mike Dertouzos at the MIT Laboratory for Computer Science. -
On Gather, I'm Looking For ...:Great writing, philosophy, Connections, ideas, amusement.

Ladybounty ~., Jul 24, 2008, 9:27AM EDTGood morning Will,
Thanks for adding me. Now I won't have any excuse for missing any your posts! -
@**Phyllis**@ @ Mom of 2 boys@, Mar 31, 2008, 7:16PM EDTLiberal? Liberal? How dare you!!! I am a republican!! LOL... I know to you that is not much better.. I believe you also said... Bite me... William I know your mother taught you better manners than that...
First there was pissing of the porch,calling people nasty names such as liberals, now saying "bite me". Where will it end... Next you will want people to vote for a candidate such as Obama..
Your mother has promised to tell me when you are home so I can come over to slap you silly.. LOL -
Granny Janny H., Mar 22, 2008, 5:07PM EDTI like your new icon (sort of Bart-ish) and profile. We have some music and film preferences in common as well as three authors and several many interests. I am glad to see you publishing more as I love to read your stuff, especially when I understand it.
I think I already told you that I think your mother is fabulous. I hope to meet up with her soon. It sounds like you are enjoying your new location. -
Tom C., Jan 12, 2008, 9:08PM ESTsorry for the delay, Will. This is my first ever ping. Can't say I'll be doing too many more.
You join by hitchhiking from LA to Cleveland, and, hot having enough money, take advantage of any free meal you can. Amazingly, I was certain my partner in crime (Dr. Kram himself) would fail, and so ordered a side of breaded mushrooms with designs on finishing his leftovers. When he succeeded in about 45 minutes (you get an hour to finish the steak, a potato, a shrimp cocktail and a piece of bread) I bellied up and squeezed the last bite down (it only got as far as my sternum, if I recall correctly) at the 59 minute mark. We waddled across the highway, and were saved by a VW van with room for us to recline. And the driver even sparked up a jay (to use the parlance of the day.) Quite a memory, and I still have the certificate to proof I am a member of, what they term, "The most exclusive club in the world." -
elizabeth e., Jan 1, 2008, 10:08PM ESTJust thought I would ping you. How's DC....can't wait for you to call and tell me all about it.
